Day of Action – culinary workshop with employees of Societe Generale
25th of May was a day full of impressions for us. In the „Heart of Children” Association, culinary workshops took place as part of the “Children with Passion 2.0” project funded by Societe Generale.
It was also an important day for us because we have celebrated our special moment of Foundation life – Day of Action. On this day, people around the world, from all United Way organizations , are united to support the local community through various actions. This “Day of Action” is meant to remind that for the people united for the greater good each day is a day of action.
The workshop was attended by: children, employees of United Way Poland, volunteers, employees of Societe Generale, parents of children and educators of the Association of Hearts for Children.
The workshop consisted of two parts – theoretical and practical. At the beginning, our streetworker, Natalia, talked about the basic principles of healthy nutrition. The children learned which products are worthy to eat and what is most adequate quantity of them to be strong and healthy. Thanks to coloured educational materials, children have got the knowledge faster, which was finally verified by a small quiz.
In the second part of the workshop there was a mini MasterChef contest in which the children were taking part in the culinary event. The task was to prepare a healthy salad from the available ingredients. The children were divided into four teams, and each group was supervised by a mentor. Employees of Societe Generale, parents and educators of the community center were among them. The children were very engaged in the task, thanks to that the end result was stunning. Salads not only tasted good, but also looked beautiful. Each team presented their small work, describing in detail to the jury what was in it.
Then, the Jury composed of Societe Generale employees, educator of the day-care center and representative of the children, tested the dishes and then went aside to evaluate the competition. In the meantime, the children ate the salads with taste. The jury’s verdict was annouced soon. The Jurors appreciated all the salads and the effort put into the work, marking the very high level of culinary works. The winner was group 4.
At the end, the winners received prizes (culinary gadgets). There were also prizes for other contestants. The workshops were completed with short action games.
On behalf of the children we would like to thank the employees of Societe Generale, volunteers and all participants for their impact in the workshops. It was a great time!
